KGW’s Matt Zaffino explores the world of snow-camping in Central Oregon

Snow Camping Itinerary

Day 1

Wanderlust guides will pick you up and head to the outer edges of Mount Bachelor. There, you’ll strap on your snowshoes and overnight packs, and head into a gorgeous old-growth Hemlock forest.

On the way to the scenic camp location, we’ll weave through the forest looking for animal tracks and learning all about the natural and cultural history of Central Oregon. Once we arrive at the camp spot, it'll be time to move some snow!

After a bit of hard work, you’ll have a cozy snow shelter for the night. We’ll gather around a crackling bonfire and enjoy a delicious dinner provided by our local back-country caterer— including some delicious local libations! Take in the night sky, with more stars illuminating the heavens than you could imagine.

Your guides will be available to provide interpretation throughout the evening before you head into your cozy shelter and tuck into a warm sleeping bag for the night.

Day 2

Wake to a beautiful snowy morning, and enjoy a hearty breakfast around our camp fire. After breakfast, we’ll romp through the powder a bit before heading back to civilization.
